It has been reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will end his interest in the FC Porto striker Hulk due to the excessive demands by the Portuguese club. FC Porto are thought to be demanding around € 100 million for the striker, which would make him the most expensive player in the history of world football.
Even though he has not been the nominee for one of the world player of the year awards nor has he won the Champions League during his career, Roman Abramovich sees the demands by FC Porto as being excessive. Hence, it is thought that Chelsea will officially not make a bid for the striker.
There have also been reports that Chelsea were willing to pay at least € 85 million for the player, but these reports have been widely off the mark. Chelsea recently appointed the Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas in place of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti. Hence, they have been linked with Portuguese players currently playing in the Portuguese league on numerous occasions, but so far, they have signed only Gary Cahill in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old has been playing for FC Porto for quite some time now, and it has been thought that he would be willing to move to a bigger club in the future.
“Hulk is one of the best players in the world and he is being followed by big clubs in Europe. €100million is not such a high figure. Every European club knows that the money spent on him would be compensated by his talent,” Hulk’s agent said to the media after reports that Chelsea had apparently baulked at the figure. It is thought that only French club Paris St Germain and Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala are interested in signing the player for this huge amount.
