Portugal national team manager Paula Bento has said that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo wants to achieve a lot with the national team. Despite having achieved a lot of success in the club football, Cristiano Ronaldo has always been starved of success internationally. The player has won almost every major title in England and he is close to winning the league title in Spain as well this season. However, Paulo Bento has said that Ronaldo wants to win the Euro 2012 more than anything else. Portugal will be coming into the competition having not performed well in the previous two installations.
Ronaldo is having a great season with his club team Real Madrid having scored 54 goals in all competitions. He is once again expected to shine at the Euro 2012, but the fact that Portugal have tough group means that it is going to be difficult for Ronaldo at the Euro 2012. Bento, however, thinks that the hunger within Ronaldo itself will propel them to glory at the Euro 2012. Bento will be without the experienced defenders like Ricardo Carvalho and Chelsea defender José Bosingwa. The two players have retired from international duty after citing personal problems with the manager.
“These are the colours we will defend in the Euro with one single objective: to conquer it,” Ronaldo said on his Facebook page. “We want to go as far as possible, and our first objective is the quarter-finals, that is what is set out at the moment,” said Bento to the supporters in response to the desire from Cristiano Ronaldo. Bento has helped Portugal qualify for the tournament after initially it appears that they might not. Portugal will be up against favourites Germany and Netherlands in the group stages of the Euro 2012.
