Portugal current squad has been impressive in the past 12 months as the national team has been able to combine a host of aging and upcoming stars into the team. We analyse whether this is the best Portuguese squad in the past decade.

Looking at the goalkeeping position Rui Patricio has made this position his own for the past five years with the 31 year old the embodiment of stability and safety. His position and shot stopping ability makes him one of the most underrated goalkeepers of his generation.

The centre defence has always consisted of the old sages of Nicolas Pepe and Bruno Alves or Jose Fonte. However Ruben Dias appears to have broken this stronghold with the 21 year old regarded as the best next thing in the centre back positions.

The fullback positions are held by two players that have not had the best of times with their clubs in recent years but possess immense qualities. Cedric Soares and Raphael Guerero are two of the best attacking fullbacks in world football. However both players have not been able to translate their abilities to consistent performances for their clubs.

The midfield which used to be the weak point of the team is actually now the strength with the trio of William Carvalho, Ruben Neves and Bruno Fernandes. Carvalho and Neves form a world class double pivot while Bruno Fernandes is given the license to roam and cause havoc for opposing defences.

The attack is where the strength of the team lies. Cristiano Ronaldo is the leader of the team and brings goals and star power. Joao Felix is the young prodigy capable of causing havoc from the right side. Bernardo Silva completes this trident with the Manchester City ace capable of taking over games on his own.

This could arguable be the best Portuguese squad ever in the past decade.
