The Portugal national team manager Paulo Bento has said that he definitely did not see the Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo developing into one of the greatest players in the world. The Portuguese winger is rightly regarded as one of the best players in the world. He has lifted almost every major trophy with both Manchester United and Real Madrid. He has scored more than 50 goals in the last season alone, while he has already won the coveted FIFA world player of the year award. Speaking ahead of the friendly match with Panama, the national team manager Paulo Bento said that he could not foresee the rise of 27-year-old into one of the greatest football players.
Cristiano Ronaldo is regarded as one of the best in the world alongside the Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. He also currently holds the record for the world’s most expensive player as a result of the £ 80 million transfer from Manchester United three years ago. He is one of the favourites to lift the FIFA world player of the year award this season. Speaking at the friendly match with Panama, Paulo Bento has said that Cristiano Ronaldo is an extraordinary player.
“A few years ago we saw that he was a great talent. However, perhaps we did not see him becoming what he is now for both his club and his national team. He is extraordinary,” said Paulo Bento ahead of the match. The manager of the Portugal national team also said that he is extremely dissatisfied with the attitude taken by FIFA regarding the international friendlies. He has said that the football authorities do not care about any other aspect other than money. Bento has suggested that friendlies during this stage should be allowed to take place with 11 substitutions.
