Over the last five years, Cristiano Ronaldo has proven to be one of the best players in the world. He has won everything at club level including league titles and Champions league trophies. Many believe that he is on the same level as Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, despite the Argentine experiencing more success during this period. Portugal manager Paulo Bento is privileged enough to be working with Ronaldo, who he thinks has the ability to get Portugal to a major title. Portugal came extremely close to winning the European championships in 2004 only to be beaten by Greece in the finals.
As with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo has not had success with the national team. Bento, though, has praised the 28-year-old by saying that he is from a different planet. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for Portugal in recent World Cup qualifying match against Northern Ireland. This helped them win the match 4-2. As a result of scoring a hat-trick, Ronaldo has become the second highest scorer for Portugal. Bento has praised this achievement and has said that he would not be surprised to see Ronaldo get past Pauleta’s record of 47 goals for the national team in a short time.
Ronaldo will not be part of the team that take on Brazil in a friendly match.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is from another planet. He is already the second-best scorer in Portugal history, which is crazy because he is still young,” said Bento.
“It was the first time I scored three goals for the national team and for me is something historic. At club-level I have done it, but internationally it has never happened before. I am happy, it was special. I came closer to the (Pauleta’s) record [of 47], but that was not my goal,” said Ronaldo after reaching this landmark.
