Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Brazil and Spain will be the favourites in the upcoming World Cup 2014. Ronaldo will definitely be looking to leave his mark in this tournament after becoming the record goalscorer in the Champions League. He has scored 15 up until now, which has broken the 14 goal record set by Lionel Messi a few years ago. Ronaldo’s goals have helped the club reached the final of the Champions League this campaign. However, talks has already begun about the upcoming World Cup, which will start on June 12.
Portugal will have to negotiate a tough group stage since they will be meeting the likes of Ghana and Germany. Ronaldo was a huge influence as Portugal reached the semifinals of the Euro 2012. He will be hoping that his magic helps the team achieve a similar status in the most watched tournament of all. He is aware that winning the World Cup will not be easy for a team like Portugal, which has limited quality apart from him. He has put Spain and Brazil as the favourites for the title.
Spain will come into the tournament as the reigning champions, while Brazil have the home support behind them. Spain also have a tough group ahead of them.
“Brazil is our sister country where they speak Portuguese and I hope to enjoy it out there. [Portugal] must take it one game at a time, nothing is impossible in football. The strongest teams are Spain, Brazil, France, Italy, Argentina… Any team could go on and win it but the two big favourites are Spain and Brazil. I won’t be putting myself under any pressure; I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I’ve spent many years playing at the highest level,” said Ronaldo, who is the reigning world Player of the Year.
