Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has said that he expects Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo to rejoin Manchester United very shortly. He has said that the Premier league outfit have been in talks with Real Madrid over the possibility of resigning their former star. Madrid signed Ronaldo from Manchester United for a world record transfer fee of £ 80 million in 2009. Even though the 28-year-old has enjoyed a lot of success on a personal level by scoring numerous goals, his trophy cabinet has not increased substantially following this record deal.
He stated recently that he was unhappy at Real Madrid and it was widely believed that his wages were one of the reasons. Current president Florentino Perez stated that he would do everything within his powers to keep Ronaldo at the club. Real have been locked in negotiations with the 28-year-old over a new contract for a long time, but they have been unable to agree to a new deal because of the wage demands of the player according to Calderon. He has stated that Ronaldo is demanding around € 20 million net per season, which Real are unwilling to pay.
He has also said that United have held talks with Madrid.
“It seems that Manchester United are interested in having him back. I know there have been talks where they have expressed interest. At the start of last season, he tried to talk to the president about the renewal of his contract and the talks did not go well. Now I understand he is asking for €20m (£17.5m) net every season. That is going to be difficult for Real Madrid to accept because it is around €40 million every year for the club to pay and that is the situation now,” said Calderon, who was the president who promised Ronaldo at Real Madrid.
